Casa Mula was literally home for one of the local Mules and has been lovingly renovated using local materials making it a beautiful rustic three story holiday home with all mod cons!
Situated in a corner of the village, with parking, it has fantastic views of Mount Maroma, at 2.065 meters its the highest mountain in the the Axarquia, you can climb the summit from Sedella.
Sedella is a traditional white village ( Pueblo Blanco ) located below the Tejeda and Almijara mountain range at nearly 700 m above sea level. There is a supermarket selling all the basics and a street market on a Monday.
There is a restaurant in the village as well as a drinks bar called 'La Cueva' on the edge of the village which enjoys beautiful views of the countryside. Las Banderes (The flags) restaurant is a 5 min drive from the village, Manolo offers a selection of meats and fish (to order) cooked on his wood BBQ .
Casa Mula is a unique holiday home and gives the feeling of real Spain as you will see all the locals going about their daily chores whether it be harvesting the grapes to make the local wine or bringing back fresh fruit & vegetables from their allotments. There is a bread van that comes past daily as well as other vans selling anything from fresh fish to water melons!
The house itself is full of original features like old beams and terracotta flooring and is well furnished. There is a TV (no satellite) DVD player with a large choice of DVD's as well as plenty of books including books on the local area and guide books.
There are a number of city daytrips you can take from Sedella including Cordoba, Granada and Malaga, or you can just spend your days exploring the many white villages in this beautiful area.
Casa Mula is on it's own with no shared amenities . The village has a municipal swimming pool which is open during the months of July and August. There is also a fully fitted gym in the village where guests can go for around 5 euros per session. There is a visitor centre where you can learn about the natural park.
The apartment can accommodate 2 people. Pets are not allowed. It is possible to check in from 16:00 and check out before 11:00.
The Mudejar Route is 75 kilometres long and is entirely inland giving spectacular views from every corner! It traverses the municipalities of Arenas, Archez, Salares, Sedella and Canillas de Aceituno. All of these white villages (pueblos blancos) are filled with history and Mudejar architecture, and one should take time to wander through the streets and mingle with the friendly local people.
Arenas is the starting point of the route , around 10 kilometres from Velez Malaga. Along the road running from Arenas to Archez there are two charming villages, Corumbela and Daimalos, both have retained their Mosque Minarets and Daimalos has a Moorish fountain. The next stop is Archez which also retains its Minaret.
Travelling along the green mountain foothills for 7 kilometres the next stop of the route is Salares. After this stop, a short distance of 4 kilometrs brings you to Sedella, which nestles at the foot of mount Maroma, at 2069 metres it is the highest mountain in the Axarquia. The River Rubite, a tributary of the River Velez, runs through this area as do numerous mountain springs and streams.
A further 8km from Sedella you will come to the last stop on the route, Canillas De Aceituno. On the way you will pass through La Rahige Nature reserve where a picnic area is provided. From the village you can hike to the, now famous, El Saltillo trail which boasts Spain's third longest suspension bridge at 50 metres. The official route stops here but the road from Canillas de Aceituno (also a beautiful scenic drive ) takes you down to Velez-Malaga, the capital of the Axarquia which is well worth a visit!
Situated in a corner of the village, with parking, it has fantastic views of Mount Maroma, at 2,065 meters its the highest mountain the the Axarquia area, there is a hiking trail to the summit from Sedella. There is also another spectacular walk nearby called El Saltillo which was recently renovated adding metal walkways and a 50 meter long suspension bridge making it one of the three longest in Spain, connecting Sedella and the neigbouring village of Canillas de Aceituno as part of the Gran Senda ( great trail) of Malaga, it has been nicknamed 'The Caminito del Rey of the Axarquia'.
We can also help organise outdoor activities like horse riding, kayaking, potholing, 4X4 trips into the national park etc.
This is what guests say about their stay at Casa Mula:
Lovely house in a very quaint village in the mountains. Converted to a high standard with a great roof terrace. Caroline is well known by the locals in the village and nothing is too much trouble for her. Highly recommended.
Kelvin
Lovely rustic get-away, well-equipped and thoughtfully laid-out. Loved the view from the rooftop terrace! Each of the rooms are lovely, connected by flights of stairs that do take some energy on a hot day.
Kilala
We stayed at Casa Mula for the month of May. Sedella is a very beautiful, quiet village in the hills of Andalucia and it was well situated for exploring the area. The house stayed cool even during the hot days and has a great rooftop terrace.

What a top stay! Caroline and Malcolm their stay was amazing. If you really want to soak up Spanish culture, this is the place to stay. An authentic Spanish mountain village, local food and with good weather you can spend blissful time on the roof terrace.

The mule house is truly an incredible space and the town is Sedella the cutest town that I have ever stayed in. This is place is what AirBnB is all about… unique, cozy spots in places that are off the beaten track. The place is everything I could have hoped for and more. The town is one that leaves you with the desire to return. And the area around both offers endless exploration in terms of nature, taste, and sights. Caroline is also an exceptional host. Responsive, smart, and fun. I hope and plan to return again!!

We love living and working in Sedella as it is such a friendly and traditional Spanish village surrounded by beautiful countryside. You can walk for 10 minutes and be in the natural park where you wont see anybody apart from maybe a goat herd or a mule !! Its still such an unspoilt area. There are a few ways to climb mount Maroma either from Sedella or the neighbouring villages. There are three wine 'bodegas' in the area, in Cómpeta, Sayalonga and here in Sedella where you can visit to have tapas and a wine tasting .
Sedella has a bus service that goes twice daily to the coast and back, there are also local taxi services available.
We can arrange airport transfers if needed. There is plenty of parking close to Casa Mula.
